Hey BD.
1985 is the last monster year for the Dead.( They hit some high points before Brent goes and also with Hornsby) but 1985 is like a freight train.
If Jerry's voice was a little stronger I would even dare to say it is the best year since Brent started touring because in 85 you start seeing Brent being much more of an equal musician and not so much a hired hand.(Not saying the Dead saw him as a hired hand but I think he saw himself for awhile as the guy replacing both Keith and Donna) instead of simply as the keyboard/piano player of the Dead.
Certainly Garcia is tearing it up in 80-81 but Brent can at times be a distraction in the jam during those years.
It was like Brent was finding his way into the center of the band.
Brent certainly peeked in 87-89 but by then Garcia was struggling.
The Dead has a sense of urgency in 85 they never seemed to recover moving forward.
I will have to listen to the Atlanta shows.
